Analysis of a teen film

She's The Man

Film Poster

She's the Man is a 2006 American romantic comedy directed by Andy Fickman inspired by William Shakespear's play 'Twelfth Night'. The film stars Amanda Bynes, Channing Tatum, Laura Ramsey and Vinnie Jones. This teen film is not the usual typical film when it comes to teenagers however it doesn't mean it completely blocks out certain conventions when it comes to teen films.

Laura Ramsey - Olivia

Vinnie Jones - Football coach

Amanda Bynes - Viola

Channing Tatum - Duke

The main storyline of this teen film is that Viola replaces her brother at his school as he goes off to London to play with his band. In her original high school the girl's football team gets cut off and Viola wants to have a trial to join the boys team which she's not allowed to and that leads her to her great idea of pretending to be her brother.

The conventions of this film are not the usual ones you see but there still are the stereotypical characters such as the good looking guy and the pretty girls. However, in this teen film there's a twist as Viola is more into football than her male brother Sebastian.
